opening up for others


we just watched 'the blind side' movie, with sandra bullock (mm-hmmm) and what a sweet show! it reminded me of the stories we heard about people opening their homes to strangers after hurricane katrina.


for those who come to expect charity, it is hard to comprehend how scary it must be to welcome people into your house not knowing who they are. it's too bad that in many of these shows it's the HOSTS who are made to seem like they have ulterior motives when THEY are the ones taking the risks.


but in the end, no hollywood ending would be satisfied with a bludgeoned family of four, victimized by the whack job they were trying to assist. so you learn to expect that everything will turn out ok. not always first-round-pick-in-the-nfl ok, but satisfactory.


here's a story about an outreach program that gives young people a chance to get out of the city for awhile. i thought it was neat, because it provides a way for young people to not think the world revolves around them. often i have lamented the modern trend of self-esteem-building baloney that makes kids think they are the center of the universe. well, this expands their universe outward a little ...
